FEW Recipient
The Frances E. Willard award honors Alpha Phi alumnae who have achieved outstanding success in their chosen fields and who have gained recognition on a national or international level

Andrea Wong (Zeta Phi – MIT)
Andrea Wong graduated from MIT with a degree in electrical
engineering, worked as an investment banker and then attended Stanford Business School. But after her summer job at NBC, Andrea was captivated with the industry and decided she wanted to be a news producer. In 1993, she joined ABC as a Researcher for “PrimeTime Live.” Only a few years later, she was promoted to Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President, ABC, Inc. By 1998, she was appointed Vice President, Alternative Series and Specials, ABC Entertainment, and in 2000 was promoted to Senior Vice President.  During her time at ABC she helped to launch popular TV reality series including “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” “Wife Swap” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

In April of 2007, Andrea accepted the position of President and CEO of Lifetime Entertainment Services with ABC Entertainment®.  Now one of the television industry’s youngest CEOs, she has transformed the network with such success that the Wall Street Journal named Andrea one of the 50 Women to Watch 2007. Under Andrea’s leadership, Lifetime Television has enjoyed its top-rated series (“Army Wives”) in its 24-year history and has acquired the mega-hit “Project Runway,” which premieres in November.

Lily of the Valley
The Lily of the Valley award honors generous and self-motivated contributions of time and talent resulting in a unique accomplishment that impacts the Fraternity in an extraordinary way.

Bonnie Lemon (Beta Delta - UCLA)
Bonnie created the "Fabulous Life of an Alpha Phi" video that has had a major impact on both individual recruiting strength and international recruiting strength over the past several years. She came up with the idea originally for UCLA recruitment, but immediately saw the potential for it to be used at other chapters. Bonnie was responsible for virtually all aspects of the development of the video from ideation to scripting to video conversion. She donated the time she spent on the video and paid for development expenses out of pocket. She persuaded the digital media artist who translated her vision for the Alpha Phi version of "Fabulous Life" graphics to donate his time to the project. Bonnie has also worked with many other Alpha Phi chapters to adapt scripts and the music for their campuses. Approximately 55-60 chapters have utilized the video to date in recruitment. Chapters have posted unprecedented gains in recruiting strength as a result of the video.


Ursa Major Award Recipients
The Ursa Major award recognizes alumnae members of Alpha Phi who have achieved outstanding success in their chosen fields, either professional or volunteer, on a local, state, provincial or regional level.

Stacey Lowery Bretz (Delta-Cornell)
Stacey earned her PhD in Chemistry Education at Cornell University and worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the UC/Berkeley, where she developed module-based introductory chemistry course targeting non-science majors. She is active in her field and has served in various capacities, including trustee on the Examinations Institute Board of Trustees for the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Education and a panel reviewer for the National Science Foundation, Math and Science Partnership Program.

 Catherine Brown (Zeta Nu-Texas Christian)
Cathy began her career as a National Bank Examiner for the U.S. Department of the Treasury and is the current senior vice president for First Command Bank. She also serves on the Private Bank Credit Policy Committee, representing all private bankers in the U.S. She has been ranked the #1 analyst in the U.S. and also co-authored the credit policy at JP Morgan-Chase on loans secured by the Hedge Funds. Cathy served in the United States Air Force Reserve for 10 years and was the only Officer Training School Candidate to receive 2 consecutive “Outstanding” ratings on oral presentations. She is also an active member of the Ft. Worth (Texas) alumnae chapter, including past president.


Becky Othold Del Rio (Delta Tau-Louisiana State)
For nearly 2 decades, Becky has been the Educational Audiologist/Speech-Language Pathologist teacher for Pulaski County Special School District (Little Rock, Ark.). In 2000 and 2007, she received the school board’s award for outstanding achievement. Becky is active in organizing the education of the hearing-impaired and has received many awards in recognition of her achievements, including the award for Outstanding Citizen of the State of Arkansas in 2006.


Connie Mayes Dyer (Omega-Texas)
Connie has been a board member of the Methodist Hospital System (Houston, Texas) for 20 years. During that time, she has served in various roles including the chairman for the Heart & Vascular Center Council and the vice-chairman for the Methodist Health Centers Board. Connie has also served on the Board of Directors for the Literacy Advance of Houston and the Memorial Assistance Ministries and has been an active member of Alpha Phi’s Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter since 1969. 

Michelle Fulcher (Beta Gamma - Colorado)
An award winning communications professional with more than 25 years of experience in journalism, education and media relations, Michelle is currently the producer of “Colorado Matters,” a half-hour daily news-interview show.  She has held the position of national editor of The Denver Post which created a team of reports that covered international and national issues. Michelle was the deputy metro editor of 40 reporters and their editors for daily news coverage and the assigning editor for coverage of the Columbine High School shooting, helping to lead the newspaper to a 2000 Pulitzer Prize. 

Anne DeWinter Kayl (Beta Epsilon-Arizona)
Anne is a clinical Neuropsychologist at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She serves as the Associate Professor in the Department of Neuro-Oncology and as director of the Clinical Neuropsychology Training Program.  She has published numerous works on the cognitive sequelae of cancer and cancer therapies and has presented at local, regional and national meetings. Anne maintains an active research agenda at her institution, receiving a number of grants to support her work. She is also a member of multiple institutional committees, including the Clinical Ethics Committee.  She has served as secretary and president of the Houston Neuropsychological Society, a local professional organization.


Margaret Bull Kovera (Beta-Northwestern)
In 1994, Margaret received her PhD in psychology and went on to be elected president of the American Psychology-Law Society three years later. She has received over $1 million dollars in funding from the National Science Foundation for her research on jury decision making and a new lineup administration procedure designed to reduce the rates of mistaken identifications and wrongful convictions. She currently serves as full professor of psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York and has published over 60 articles on psychology and law topics. Margaret has received numerous awards, including several from her universities for teaching excellence and research productivity.

 Anne Lewis Naragon (Zeta Gamma-Santa Clara)
Anne is currently a partner for Elite Network (Mountain View, Calif.), a recruiting firm specializing in financial search and consulting services. Since 2002, she has given her time to the Junior League of San Jose holding a number of positions including recruiting committee chair, membership committee chair and nominating committee chair. She is also an active Alpha Phi alumna, currently serving as the alumnae membership coordinator for the Pacific Northwest Region, the president of the Silicon Valley (Calif.) alumnae chapter and the president of the Santa Clara (Zeta Gamma) Property Committee.

Michaelanean Award Recipients
The Michaelean award is given each biennium to those who have shown outstanding loyalty and continuous devotion to Alpha Phi at the local level.

Natalie Baird (Gamma Nu-Miami University)

Natalie has been an active member of the Cincinnati (Ohio) alumnae chapter and has served on the Miami (Gamma Nu) advisory board since 2000. In 2001, Natalie assumed the role of treasurer for Gamma Nu’s Property Committee. She has been a strong supporter for the chapter over the last nine years as Gamma Nu has risen to a 6th ranked chapter on campus.  Natalie recently started the First Stitch, an embroidery company that has become a licensed vendor of Alpha Phi offering custom embroidered items. She embroidered the handkerchiefs that Gamma Nu gave to its newly initiated members this year. 

 Michelle Jones Davis (Theta Alpha-Linfield)
Since 2005, Michelle has been the Oregon State (Upsilon) chapter adviser and member of the house corporation board. Under Michelle’s leadership, the chapter morale and performance has been boosted. Both Michelle and her husband, Kevin, donate much of their time to the chapter house: Michelle working with the members on relationships and problem solving and Kevin ensuring that the housing facilities and grounds are well cared for and maintained. In addition, she has been able to use her ties with the local business community to help the chapter achieve lower costs for major expenditures and community service opportunities.

 Lauren Cherry Doherty (Eta Chi-Bishop)
Lauren has been the chapter adviser to Wilfrid Laurier (Iota Theta) for 4 years. She is also serving as the Chapter-Based Instruction facilitator for Western Ontario (Theta Eta), new member specialist for the Upper Midwest Region and the Wilfrid Laurier chapter liaison for the Ontario South Ivy Connection. At Convention 2006, Lauren received the award for Outstanding Chapter Adviser.

 Lyn Horne Flynt (Omega-Texas)
Lyn affiliated with Texas (Omega) in 1951 and is a two time president of the Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter. She served as district governor for 6 years and has volunteered on both the International Convention Committee as well as the Alpha Phi Nominating Committee. Lyn has been involved with the Houston Area Panhellenic Association for 30 years, including serving as president. In 1990, Lyn was named “Woman of the Year” at the Omega chapter reunion.

 Ruth Wohman Gerum (Gamma Lambda-Houston)
Ruth has been a member of Alpha Phi for over 50 years and an active member of the Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter. She has served as the chairman of the committee to re-write the chapter’s bylaws and has held many positions within the chapter including secretary and president. In 2007, Ruth co-founded the special interest group “Bordeaux Babes.” Ruth has also served as the committee chairperson for the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic.


Jessica Goebel (Delta Xi-Nebraska/Kearney)
Directly after graduation, Jessica became a leader in the Kearney (Neb.) alumnae chapter. Over a 4 year period she has held the positions of marketing director, communications chairman, membership coordinator, event planner, philanthropy chairman and currently, president. Under her guidance, the chapter has turned into a thriving, active group of women.


Julie King Gomez (Gamma Xi-Wichita State)
A member of the Silicon Valley (Calif.) alumnae chapter since 2007, Julie serves on the Collegiate Membership Strategy Committee and as team lead for Washington State (Beta Rho). She has also donated her time in various other positions, including Wichita State (Gamma Xi) chapter adviser and the Santa Clara (Zeta Gamma) recruitment adviser. Julie received the “Outstanding Other Adviser” award from the Pacific Northwest Region 2 years in a row and is slated to serve on the 2008-2010 International Executive Board.


Denise Smith Jacobs (Delta Beta-Texas A&M/Commerce)
Denise is an active member in the Dallas/Suburban (Texas) alumnae chapter. She assisted with the planning of the Delta Beta reunion as well as the fundraising efforts for the house corporation board. Though she lost her husband to cancer several years ago, Denise has persisted in Alpha Phi activities, regularly attending alumnae chapter meetings and monthly gatherings with a group called the “Bordeaux Bunch.”

 Elizabeth Barber LeDoux (Sigma-Washington)
Elizabeth has served as the scholarship adviser to Loyola Marymount (Zeta Beta) and San Diego State (Gamma Alpha). From 1993-94, she was chapter adviser for San Diego State and helped them achieve the highest recruitment that year. During this time, she was also active with the alumnae chapters in her area and served on various fundraising committees. Since 2003, she has continuously held a position with the Northern Virginia alumnae chapter, including president (2003-2007) and currently as a member of the Leadership Team. In 1996, she received the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter Award, given to the member who made the biggest impact on the chapter during the year.

 Lori Lyman Losee (Beta Rho deuteron-Washington State)
Lori began her alumnae work in 2003, serving for a few months as the MAP adviser for the Washington (Sigma) collegiate chapter. In 2005, she became the program development adviser for Puget Sound (Gamma Zeta) and a few months later was appointed chapter adviser. Lori founded the Greater Puget Sound (Wash.) Alpha Phi alumnae chapter in 2006 and was elected president. For the last two years, she has served as the Pacific Northwest Regional Conference coordinator and, since October 2007, she has been the new member specialist for the Pacific Northwest Region.  Lori also received the Pacific Northwest Chapter Adviser of the Year award in 2006.


Lynn McLaughlin Murray (Delta Upsilon-Baldwin-Wallace)
Lynn has been chapter adviser for the Baldwin Wallace (Delta Upsilon) chapter since 1997.  She also served on the International Constitution Committee in 1998 and the Committee on Leadership for the 1998-2000 biennium. Lynn is a member of the Alpha Phi Berea (Ohio) alumnae chapter and serves as chapter treasurer.

 Jacquelyn Murphy Ramsey (Delta Zeta-Maryland)
Jackie joined the Greater Philadelphia (Pa.) Area alumnae chapter in 1977 and has held the office of president, secretary and, for the last 10 years, philanthropy chair. She was Alpha Phi’s Panhellenic delegate for 5 years and also served as the treasurer and later as president of the Philadelphia Area Panhellenic.  Jackie was the standards adviser for West Chester (Epsilon Kappa) for a year and assisted with the colonization of Villanova (Eta Epsilon). She took the role of finance adviser for Eta Epsilon for 5 years and has been the new member adviser for more than a decade.


Nancy Weaver Roach (Delta Epsilon-Iowa)
Nancy has been involved with both the Lake County (Ill.) alumnae chapter and the Lake Forest (Gamma Epsilon deuteron) chapter since their inception.  She has continually assumed an adviser role to the collegiate chapter, currently as marketing adviser, and regularly hosts chapter events at her home.  In addition, Nancy is the membership chair for the Lake County alumnae chapter. She has dedicated her time, energy, finances and enthusiasm to assist both her collegiate and alumnae chapter to be successful. 


Bonnie Lemon (Beta Delta-UCLA)
Bonnie has continued to support her collegiate chapter over the years, serving as recruitment adviser since 2002. Bonnie was instrumental in the renovation of the UCLA (Beta Delta) house, a $2.8 million dollar project that began before a house corporation board was formed. Bonnie, in the midst of moving and having a baby, created a detailed financial analysis, handled bids for the project and worked with the bank and the contractor.

 Marcia McKee Weddle (Gamma Xi-Wichita State)
Since graduation, Marcia has been an active member of the Wichita (Kan.) alumnae chapter and loyal supporter of her collegiate chapter. Currently, she is the chapter president of the Wichita alumnae chapter, and has served in various roles and on numerous committees over the years, including Gamma Xi house corporation board member, Wichita alumnae chapter database administrator and chairman of the Alpha Phi Christmas Village Bazaar. In 1983, Marcia was chosen Wichita Alumnae Chapter Alumna of the Year.
 

Kim Neal Harlow (Omega-Texas)     silent chapter
Kim’s loyalty and dedication to Alpha Phi has been evident throughout her membership. During her collegiate years at Texas (Omega) she served in numerous positions. In 2002, she joined the Far North Dallas (Texas) alumnae chapter, where she remained an active member. Before ever attending a meeting, Kim offered to become an officer and served as website chair and Quarterly reporter for 4 years. During that time she was also the correspondence chair and on the Nominations Committee. In 2007, she received the Bordeaux Award from the Far North Dallas alumnae chapter for her service to Alpha Phi. Kim was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2004 but remained an active member of her alumnae chapter as well as the Frisco-Allen Texas Area Alumnae Panhellenic and the Colony Early Childhood PTA. Sadly, Kim lost her battle with cancer on April 3, 2008.

We celebrate this amazing sister, her life and her battle with cancer.



Polaris Award Recipients
The Polaris award is given to those who have shown outstanding loyalty and continuous devotion to Alpha Phi at the regional level.

Laura Lynn Davidson (Beta Delta-UCLA)
Laura has been committed and involved with the chapters in the Southwest region since her graduation. She has provided strategic guidance to every chapter in the Southwest region at one time or another, acting as collegiate membership coordinator, regional manager and, now, human resources coordinator.  She is currently the special governor for Pepperdine (Iota Alpha) after retiring from a long-term role as chapter adviser. She actively supports recruitment each year at USC (Beta Pi) and Loyola Marymount (Zeta Beta) to ensure their continued success. Laura is also involved in recruitment training at Regional Conferences and is a strong contributor to the Southwest team.


Teresa Gillian Gray (Beta Gamma-Colorado)
Teresa has acted as both president and treasurer of the Atlanta (Ga.) alumnae chapter. Since 2002, she has been the Southeast alumnae membership coordinator and has been a part of the Southeast Regional Conference planning team. She attended Convention twice as the Atlanta alumnae delegate and twice as the Southeast Regional Team delegate. She is a three-time convention facilitator for alumnae chapter president training and, since 1996, has served as the delegate or alternate delegate for the Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic.


Susan Carrochi Sherman (Epsilon Nu-Delaware)
Susan is the current Mid-Atlantic regional manager, her second time in this position. She has served as a chapter adviser for eight years: 4 years at Lehigh (Epsilon Psi) and 4 years at Pennsylvania (Eta Iota). During that time she also volunteered as the Mid-Atlantic operations and programming coordinator for 3 years. Between 1991 and 1999 Susan held various positions, including Villanova (Eta Epsilon) finance adviser, district governor, Lehigh chapter adviser and Philadelphia (Pa.) alumnae chapter president.


Susan Stone (Zeta Nu-Texas Christian)
Susan has been on the Slating Committee for the Ft. Worth (Texas) Alumnae chapter for 8 years and has been the Fort Worth reference chair for 6 years. During that time she has also held several positions within her alumnae chapter. She is currently the North Texas (Gamma Eta) team lead and was a member of the presentation team for the Texas Christian (Zeta Nu) extension opportunity in February 2007. Susan served as the Texas Christian chapter adviser for 2 years and as the South Central regional manager for 5 years.

Carol Wilde Wahl (Delta Kappa-Wisconsin/LaCrosse)
Carol has been a member of the Pacific Northwest Regional Team since 2003, serving as alumnae membership coordinator and more recently as operations and programming coordinator. In the past, she has volunteered on the Alumnae Membership Strategy Committee and has assumed the roles of chapter adviser and chapter operations adviser to the CSU/East Bay (Eta Delta) chapter. She facilitated Regional Conference sessions for four years and is currently an Emerging Leadership Institute application reader.
