Long Beach, Calif.
– More than 450 Alpha Phi collegians and
alumnae from the Southwest Region were invited to "Come Down to the
Beach for Founders’ Day" at the Reef Restaurant in Long Beach, Calif.,
to celebrate the Fraternity’s 133rd anniversary.
The event was organized by
Heather Brown (Gamma Kappa-CSU/Long Beach) and
CSU/Long Beach (Gamma Kappa) Chapter Adviser
Lori Hirsch Stokoe (Beta Alpha-Illinois).
Collegiate presidents shared
stories of chapter accomplishments, and collegians
showed their chapter spirit with cheers, chants or
song. On display from each chapter were tri-fold
presentations with their most popular programs and
events.
Local alumnae were recognized. The
three sisters in attendance who have been members
the longest were presented with elegant Alpha Phi
teacups and forget-me-not flowers.
A highlight of the event was when
10 women from the Gamma Kappa chapter dressed in
period costumes representing each of the Founders.
Women shopped at the Phi Market and purchased raffle
tickets for a Limoges box. Proceeds from the raffle
benefited the Alpha Phi Foundation. The celebration
was a wonderful opportunity to meet other Alpha Phis
and helped collegians realize that Alpha Phi is a
lifelong experience.
Alpha Phi International
Fraternity was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 as one of the
first Greek societies for women. Alpha Phi is dedicated to promoting
sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity
and advocating service. The organization is comprised of more than 140
collegiate chapters and more than 130 alumnae chapters throughout the
United States and Canada. The Alpha Phi Foundation is the fraternity’s
philanthropic and educational partner. Through contributions from
chapters, individual members and friends, the foundation supports
women’s cardiac health and other charitable and educational projects.
Together, Alpha Phi International Fraternity and Foundation develop
character for a lifetime.
