joining a sorority, you may feel like you have
entered into foreign territory with the use of new
terms and phrases. Below you will find explanations
for a few key sorority-related terms:

Bid Day:
occurs at the conclusion of recruitment and serves
as each chapter’s celebration of their newest
members.

COB:
COB (continuous open bidding) is an opportunity to
pledge a sorority outside of formal recruitment.
§
National Panhellenic Conference:
the governing body of 26 inter/national sororities.
§
“No Frills” Recruitment:
an effort to eliminate high cost and time demands
for decorating and entertainment. Recruitment
focuses on quality communication between chapter
members and potential members.
§
PNM:
potential new member.
§
Preferential Bidding:
mutual selection system for chapters and potential
members.
§
Recruitment Counselor:
serves as your guide through the recruitment
process.
§
Quota:
the number each NPC sorority may pledge on a campus
during formal recruitment.
§
Total:
allowable chapter size, as determined by the local
Panhellenic Council, and includes both new members
and initiated members.
