2010 Alpha Phi SELF
Challenge Blog Squad

Be a Part of the
Challenge Blog Squad
The concept is 3 girls,
3 goals. Three undergraduate Alpha Phi members
participating in SELF’s Challenge will be selected
to blog about their experience [with the
understanding that this will be more of a report and
the posting of each blog submission will be
determined by SELF.]. These three women will be
participating in the Challenge, each for unique
reasons beyond weight loss. Our women want to lose
weight but they are looking for lifestyle changes
too. From sound nutrition advice (“I’m fit, but my
habits are unhealthy”), to being more energetic (I
go to bed exhausted at 10pm) and from being more
positive (I need an attitude adjustment) to I am in
a workout rut (I’m sick of the elliptical”), we
chronicle our women’s ups and downs as they lose
weight and gain inner and outer strength. These
women bring to life the essence of the SELF
Challenge—it’s YOUR Challenge.
Each blogger will receive direction to get started,
from the SELF team and continue to do so along the
way if necessary. Here are some sample blog ideas:
Start with a bio.
-
Put simply, we want
your vitals and we want them infused with
personality. Have a friend describe you or pull
some of your information from your Facebook
profile. That profile should be friendly in tone
and answer the following:
1.
Who are you?
2.
Why are you
participating in the Challenge (maybe you’re not
sure yet, and that is OK too).
3.
What do you hope to
gain (or lose!) from participating?
4.
What is your nutrition
and energy level like now?
5.
Write where you want to
be in three months on the scale, in life, your
fitness level, etc.
6.
What is your biggest
RANT (“Even though I look great, I feel unhealthy.
I hate my terrible eating habits.”) and how will
you, in the next 3 months turn that into a RAVE:
“Wow! I now am nourishing my body with the right
foods, eating 6 small meals a day, fruit is my new
best friend…etc. etc. etc.
*At
the end of SELF’s Challenge we want you to be able
to look back at your biggest pitfalls (your rants)
and be able to rave about the new and improved
you—no matter what your goal may be.
-
Show us what you
are doing to make the improvement you need. How
are you finding the time to prepare your meals
with a final to study for and all your social
events? We want you to show your strategies
(those that work and those that fail) so you can
inspire other Alphas and all other women
participating in the Challenge. Essentially, you
are cheerleaders that are playing in the game.
-
Tunes on Command.
What’s on your workout playlist? Tech to-do!
From a digital standpoint, post what technology
you use to document your Challenge (MAC or PC?
Do you use a Smartphone? Are you equipped with a
flip cam? Apps for calorie counts? Recipe
sources outside SELF? Reference manuals? E-shops
for scales, at-home gyms, last minute workout
videos, YogaToday.com? etc etc.).
-
Be Honest. This
blog has to be honest. If it happens, a post
could detail falling off the get-fit train and
how you got back on. No failure? Fine— how the
heck did you manage that along with studying,
socializing, etc.?
Daily BlogSquad
Essentials (please be sure you can do one or more of
the following to inspire other Challenge users):
-
Recruit friends to
give you feedback, encouragement, quotes,
personal stories
-
Post TwitVid
-
Post Twitpics
-
Form your own
“Cheerlead with Me” Challenge group on Facebook
-
Blog at odd hours-
let blogging be your saving grace from going for
that bag of chips! For example: It’s late
night. You just got back from an evening event.
The other girls are gossiping around a pizza and
a bag of chips. What are YOU doing? *Hopefully
blogging!!
Most of all have FUN
with this opportunity—report to us on what you are
loving, what you are hating, how feeling more fit
effects other parts of your life.
